The high quality of the presentations that we have at the iMoot is what keeps both presenters and attendees coming back year after year. If you are new to presenting at an iMoot - don't worry, you'll get help and guidance from the team to make sure everything runs smoothly.

To submit a presentation proposal please select the 'Add Entry' tab below. We'll do the rest, and get back to you to confirm whether it has been accepted.

Sessions for the iMoot are to be a maximum of 45 minutes long including question time.

If you can not see the 'Add Entry' tab, either you haven't set up an account on the site, or the call for presentations has closed.

Thanks!

Designing courses for STEM on Moodle

Content Type: Online Teaching and Course Creation

Language: English

Description of Presentation

In this presentation we answer the question '"How can I use Moodle to develop educational recourced and activities for STEM?".

We use the core Moodle resources and activities like Book Lesson, Glossary etc.

We also use the appropiate plugins like:

  • Games  (Glossary and Quiz! They certainly are very powerful Moodle activities. It may be that the dictionary is not very charming especially at younger ages and probably the quizzes bring to mind exams or at least exam preparation depending on the mode. Can we manage them differently? Make thenm more pleasant? More playful? The answer is yes, whether it is in an educational framework of Educational gaming or in the context of Gamification! We have the Game Activity for this need... Snake and Ladders, Hangman, Millionaire, Sudoku…)
  • GeoGebra (interactive mathematics software for learning and teaching mathematics and science from primary school up to university level),
  • Formulas questions (problems such as random values, multiple answer fields, unit checking, multiple sub questions, mathematics, physics and engineering)
  • Wiris questions (Math & science software tools to enhance education with technology. Equation editor, handwriting math, advanced scientific quizzes. Covering STEM topics as well. WIRIS cas - online symbolic calculator with dynamic graphics WIRIS quizzes - mathematical assessment)
  • Stack questions The STACK system is a computer aided assessment package for mathematics, which provides a question type for the Moodle quiz.
